Ironmeme is a little experiment I am doing. It tracks new, and fresh links in the front-end community. I plan on documenting more of the pieces that I am using, as well as putting the code up on github at some point.
I think that same tools I am creating for the FE community, could work for any community. I am essentially using the twitter graph, to drive discovery. You need to pick one, or two people who you think are the center of a graph, and then use the people they follow to scoop for links.
Right now I am tweaking my algorithm, and trying to crawl the FE social graph on 150 requests a hour. I asked to get my limit raised so we will see how much faster I can do it then. I am also trying to collect different measures about individual users, as well as I am trying to do some personal editorial ranking of individual nodes.
