Why create a link shortener with webhooks?

For a couple weeks I have been playing around with Django, and Celery, just trying to figure out what’s what. I know that I want to start creating a toolset for curators but I couldn’t figure out where to start. What I landed on was a link shortener, Heap. All curation needs to be based on stats, to some degree, and in many ways for curators stats start with link shorteners. So, I wanted to create something that could be used in whatever way a curator saw, or really anyone. I am planning on releasing a bit.ly compliant API soon too so that hea.pe could be a drop-in replacement for bit.ly.
