Git tools for your team

At work a co-worker hooked up gitstats. If you use git, and work in a team this is a really fun way to look at your data. It can provide activity over time, you can sort of see your velocity(how much you code), overtime.

What to Read to Get Up to Speed in JavaScript

This was a good link, but an pretty good discussion on hacker news as well.

TextExt Plugin for jQuery

If you ever have to write an autocomplete tag box this might be usefull.

TextExt is a plugin for jQuery which is designed to provide functionality such as tag input and autocomplete. The core design principle behind TextExt is modularity and extensibility. Each piece of functionality is separated from the main core and can act individually or together with other plugins.

The Problem With The iOS Home Screen

“I’ve been thinking about the problems I have with iOS’ Home screen concept for years now, but I never fully grasped what was, exactly, that with time made using the Home screen — and thus the whole system of Springboard pages — clunky and annoying. Until it hit me earlier today, and suddenly everything started to make sense.”

deCSS3

This looks like a really usefull testing tool. deCSS3 will get rid of all the css3 it can find on the current page so you can see what your site would look like in a browser that doesn’t support css3.

The things we build shape us

I finally got around to watching this video by Wilson Miner. He did a great job of explaining some of the Marshall Mcluhan’s ideas, and how they relate to the job of a designer. I think the lessons he talks about are equally appropriate for engineers as well. If you have ever thought to your self, what does it all mean? What good is it that I can get rounded corners with out images, if it won’t even matter in a 100 years, then watch this video.

For those who don’t know Wilson Miner is currently the designer for Rdio.com, but has a distinguished history as well. He made the original designed for the Django Admin interface, and he redesigned the Apple.com homepage.
